About

Taylor Hale is an oil painter based in the Florida Keys. He pursued his passion for painting at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, Rhode Island, and earned a bachelor’s degree in illustration in 2009. There he became obsessed with oil painting, specifically. He traveled to Florence, Italy, several times to study Renaissance painters and their techniques before returning home to his island hometown.

Taylor paints the sky the way someone paints something they’ve lived with their whole life gently, attentively, and with a kind of quiet devotion. Growing up, he was surrounded by open water, soft horizons, and the ever-changing moods of light. Those landscapes shaped him, and today they ripple through every one of his oil paintings. His work is rooted in observation--he pays attention to the subtle things: how clouds stretch and dissolve, how the sea catches light for just a second before shifting, how the day slowly folds into evening.

Taylor is driven by the sky’s constant transformations and seeks to create windows to connect to another world within each work. In each piece, he captures movement and stillness, familiarity and the unknown, peace and unrest. His most recent pieces, especially, explore the surreal beauty of nature through color and atmospheric choices. His aim as a painter is to bring more peace into the world and to give glory to the beauty of nature. He invites his viewers to bring their unique perspectives to each piece and explore where the art takes them.

Taylor resides in Islamorada with his wife and two young daughters. Aside from painting, he prioritizes being with his family. He is honored to make his living as an artist and feels blessed that his work becomes part of people’s homes around the world. Thank you for being here!
